Care Instructions
Every fabric needs individual care – always follow the care label. Clothing should only be washed when necessary, as many stains can be specifically removed using a cloth and soap. It’s best to avoid harsh products such as solvents, fabric softener, and bleach. Always wash with like colors.
This way, function is preserved
Special care instructions for outdoor clothing
- Before washing, remove all “treasures” from the pockets, turn the garment inside out, and fasten all closures and buttons.
- We recommend using specialized outdoor clothing detergent, available at drugstores and specialty retailers. This protects the waterproof membrane on the interior and the water-repellent finish on the exterior of the fabric.
- After washing, unfasten the garment, reshape it, and air dry.
- The garment can be ironed as needed and according to the instructions on the care label.
- Before storing outdoor clothing for the next season, wash it and reapply water repellent treatment as needed. This removes residues left by snow, rain, or sweat and keeps the membrane protected.
Refresh waterproofing
- Water-repellent coatings should be refreshed after approximately 4 – 5 washes.
- To re-impregnate a garment, three common methods are available:
- Using an impregnation spray
- Wash-in impregnation
- Applying wax
- You should always check that the impregnation agent is suitable for the fabric and follow the application instructions. We recommend an impregnation spray from specialist outdoor retailers for outdoor clothing.
Special Care Instructions for Swimwear
- After wearing, swimwear should be rinsed with clear water, as chlorine and saltwater can damage the fabric fibers.
- Swimwear should not be washed together with items that have Velcro fasteners, as these can damage the surface. Alternatively, a separate laundry bag can be used.
- Drying clothing in direct sunlight should be avoided. Strong UV light fades colors and damages the material. Gentle drying in the shade is just as effective and helps keep colors and the elasticity of the fibers intact for longer.
Special care instructions for wool
- Especially with wool, the less frequently it is washed, the better for the fibers. If odors are an issue, it is often enough to simply air the garment outside.
- If a full wash is necessary after heavy soiling, always use the wool wash cycle and only use appropriate wool detergent.
- After washing, you can roll the still damp garment in a towel, gently squeeze out excess moisture, then lay it flat to dry.
- Due to the open, soft structure of our wool quality, pilling can occur on the surface. These small nodules are caused by friction. They typically disappear after a few washes.
- Treating the fabric with a fabric shaver will also remove the lint and leave the material looking smooth and even once again.
Special care instructions for shoes
- Dirt on shoes can best be removed with a brush and then a damp cloth. Stubborn dirt can be treated with a care and cleaning foam.
- After cleaning, it is recommended to place the damp shoes far enough away from radiators to dry and stuff them with newspaper inside to draw out moisture.
- Our leather shoes stay supple and weather-resistant long-term when cared for using shoe polish and shoe wax.
- Waterproofing the finkid shoes is possible with a suitable protective product. We recommend a PFC-free waterproofing spray from specialist shoe retailers.
Special care instructions for backpacks
- Stains can be removed with a damp cloth and soap. Solvent-based stain removers and cleaning in the washing machine or dishwasher are strongly discouraged!
- The water-repellent impregnation can be refreshed using a PFC-free textile impregnation spray. The reflective surfaces must be excluded from this treatment.
- We recommend applying the BUDDY REFLECTIVE STICKER only to the fabric, not to the reflective surfaces. Otherwise, this could leave adhesive residue or cause damage to the surface.
