Care Instructions

Every material requires individual care – that's why always follow the care label. Clothing should only be washed when necessary, as many stains can be removed specifically using a cloth and soap. It's better to avoid aggressive products like solvents, fabric softeners, and bleach. Always wash with similar colors.

How functionality is preserved
Special Care Instructions for Outdoor Clothing
  • Before washing, all “treasures” should be removed from the pockets, the garment turned inside out, and all closures and buttons closed.
  • We recommend using special detergents for outdoor clothing, available in drugstores or specialist shops. These protect the waterproof membrane on the inside and the water-repellent finish on the outside of the material.  
  • After washing, open the garment, reshape it, and air dry it.
  • As needed and according to the instructions on the care label, the garment can be ironed.
  • Before storing outdoor clothing for the next season, it should be washed and re-impregnated if needed. This removes residues from snow, rain, or sweat and keeps the membrane protected.
Refresh impregnation
  • Water-repellent coatings should be refreshed after about 4 – 5 washes.
  • To re-impregnate a garment, three common methods are available:
  1. Using an impregnation spray
  2. Wash-in impregnation
  3. Applying wax
  • Always check if the impregnating agent is suitable for the material and follow the application instructions. We recommend an impregnation spray from specialist outdoor clothing retailers.
Special Care Instructions Swimwear
  • After wearing, swimwear should be rinsed with clear water, as chlorine and saltwater can damage the fabric fibers.
  • Swimwear should not be washed together with clothing items that have Velcro fasteners, as these can damage the surface. Alternatively, a separate laundry bag can be used.    
  • Drying the clothing in direct sunlight should be avoided. Strong UV light fades colors and damages the material. Gentle drying in the shade is just as effective and helps preserve the colors and fiber elasticity for longer.
Special Care Instructions for Wool
  • Especially for wool: the less often you wash it, the better for the fibers. For odors, it's often enough to simply air the garment outdoors.
  • If a wash cycle is necessary after heavy soiling, always use the wool wash cycle and only suitable wool detergent.
  • After washing, roll the still-damp garment in a towel, gently squeeze it out, then unroll it and lay it flat to dry.
  • Due to the open, soft structure of our wool quality, pilling may occur on the surface. These small knots form through friction. They usually disappear after a few washes.
  • Treating with a pill shaver also removes the lint and makes the material look smooth and even again.
Special care instructions for shoes
  • Dirt on shoes is best removed with a brush and then a damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, a care and cleaning foam helps.
  • After cleaning, it is recommended to place the damp shoes to dry at a sufficient distance from the heater and fill them with newspaper inside to draw out moisture.   
  • Our leather shoes stay supple and weather-resistant long-term when cared for with shoe polish and shoe wax.
  • Impregnation of the finkid shoes is possible with a suitable protective agent. We recommend a PFC-free impregnation spray from specialized shoe retailers.
Special Care Instructions for Backpacks
  • Stains can be removed with a damp cloth and soap. Solvent-based stain removers and cleaning in a washing machine or dishwasher are strongly discouraged!
  • The water-repellent impregnation can be refreshed with a PFC-free textile impregnation spray. The reflective surfaces must be excluded from this.
  • We recommend applying the BUDDY REFLECTIVE STICKERS only to the fabric, not to the reflective surfaces. Otherwise, this could lead to adhesive residue or damage to the surface.
